Welcome to the new school year!

Hello. Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. It is certainly not hyperbole to say that this year is unique. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic everything about this year is different. Some of your children will be attending school in hybrid form and some completely online. Regardless, I know that your teachers have been working very hard this summer trying to plan accordingly and get everything set for a safe return.

No matter how your child will be learning this year, Home and School will be there for all of the kids in the district and we need you more than ever.

Just to let you know who we are for those new to district. Home and School is a district wide 501c3 organization that supports all of the children in the district from pre-K through their senior year. We are the organization that funds all of the assemblies, provides scholarships, buys technology, playground equipment, gym equipment, murals, and so many other things. We do so much that I could not possibly list it all. We are a district-wide organization but function at the school level. Your child’s school has a slew of volunteers at the ready. Perhaps you’d like to join them??

As I mentioned earlier, this year is going to be different. So is Home and School. Many of our activities are being rescheduled, modified or cancelled due to the virus. I honestly can’t tell you what is going to happen from one day to the next. Personally, I have a betting pool and have dinosaurs returning by Thanksgiving! Just kidding, but it does seem that we cannot predict what will happen.

I can tell you this. The kids will need us. Their schools will need us. At some point we will be needed to jump in with our volunteers and/or our funds and do something. An example of this is that we donated the money needed to buy devices for the elementary schools so more kids have access to learning at home. That was made possible through your donations and membership

So, I am asking that you please join Home and School. Your $30 membership will enable us to help your child at your school. Normally we rely on both membership and our fundraisers. This year we will be cutting back on our fundraisers. As a result, we need your membership and donations more than ever. Please visit: www.moorestownhomeandschool.com and join today.

We will need volunteers too! We just need you to be flexible. Please reach out to me at homeandschool@mtps.com. I will happily explain any and all volunteer opportunities for you and get you in touch with the chair at your child’s school.

Thank you for reading this long email. I hope your child has a great year and that your family is healthy and happy.

Harry

President, Moorestown Home and School Association

WAMS

Welcome to WAMS!

Hello families! I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are gearing up for a great year at WAMS. My name is Laura Frederico and I am the Home and School Chair for the 2020-2021 school year. I know this year is going to look very different from past years but we will all be doing our best to find ways to enhance your child’s educational experience through volunteerism and of course donations made by all of you parents when you join Home and School each year.

Please take note that our monthly Home and School meetings normally take place on the first Friday of every month at 9:30am in the media center. Because of Covid we are looking into possibly having in-person meetings with a limit on numbers (via Signup Genius) while also on Zoom for those who would like to participate from home. I will keep you posted as to how that will look and when the first meeting will be taking place.  Stay tuned!!

If you would like to contact me for anything please don’t hesitate to reach out. My email is laurafrederico@yahoo.com. Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated.

UES

Home & School Meeting

The first UES Home & School meeting will be on September 18th at 9:30 via Zoom. The link for the meeting will be out next week.

BAKER

Welcome back, Baker Bear Families!  My name is Tracy Darby and I am the Baker Home & School Chair this year.  We know that this year will not look like years past, but Home & School is still looking forward to enhancing our children’s school experience, whether your family is hybrid or choice remote.  We are actively searching for new ideas and new ways to have an impact.  Look at these emails (and our website) each week for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and Home & School meeting dates. Home & School meetings are typically held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and will be virtual for now.  Please feel free to contact me at tracyLdarby@gmail.com with any questions or new ideas!

SOUTH VALLEY

On behalf of Home & School, welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at South Valley! Although this school year might be a little different, we are committed to making this year great! Please join us for our first virtual H&S meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 15th at 9:30.

SCHOOL STORE – From Team Red Dog

Thank you for your email! We sent an update email on the 26th about the masks being back ordered. Perhaps that email went into your junk mail? Please see a copy of the email below. If you have any more questions feel free to email us back again, thank you!

To begin, Thank you for your order from the Moorestown Home and School Online Sale! For those that don’t know, we are a small, women owned business and we are always extremely grateful for the support that people are giving to our local, small business, especially during these crazy times…so THANK YOU!

We received an update from our vendor yesterday and unfortunately some of the masks are backordered – the in hands date of these masks is HOPEFULLY sometime next week however we have no guarantees from our vendor. With this being said, our vendor was very apologetic. They have been slammed with mask orders, as you can imagine with the whole country needing masks, the demand is just out of control. This has pushed their turnaround time almost 2 weeks longer than expected.

All other items are complete and packing and shipping has already begun! It is our standard practice with backorders that we ship out packages as other items in an order are complete. For instance, if you ordered 2 shirts and 3 masks, we will ship the shirts NOW, and when the masks are in, we will ship those at that time.

If you ordered ONLY t-shirts or other apparel, they will be shipped by September 1, IF NOT SOONER! Some of you may even have packages as early as this Friday! IF you entered a discount code for pickup at back to school night, your store organizer will be in touch with alternative pick up plans. We will send another email when the orders are shipped!

Thank you so much! Be in touch!

Mindy & Jen, Team Red Dog

T-shirt Fundraiser Provides Support to Victims of Domestic Violence During COVID-19

We Stand Together…Six Feet Apart T-shirts are being sold by members of MooreUnity to raise money for Forever Your Overwatch Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization that provides support to people who are at risk of domestic violence.  Order your shirt here by May 15th givesignup.org/westandtogether.   All proceeds (after printing costs) will be donated.

Since the mandatory social isolation resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak, people who are victims of domestic abuse are in even more dire straits.  The World Economic Forum reports that the UN has projected three months of lockdown could result in 15 million cases of domestic abuse worldwide.

The Forever Your Overwatch Foundation is a local organization providing food and supplies to domestic violence shelters and survivors who are struggling with food insecurity during this time. They are also creating discrete “go bags” to those who are attempting to leave very abusive situations. These bags have a smart phone with minutes and security apps loaded, a panic alarm that alerts someone they are in danger, an Uber gift card, visa gift card, a safety plan, and anything specific to their situation.  For more information on Forever Your Overwatch, visit their website https://fyofoundation.org/

*While the primary goal is to raise money for charity, we would like as many people in Moorestown as possible to be able to have one of these shirts demonstrating our commitment to each other’s safety and health.  Due to a generous donation from an anonymous source, we will have a limited number available at no cost for anyone who is facing financial challenges.  Please contact mooreunity.nj@gmail.com to request assistance.
